Kites For Kids

Reaches goal of 5,000 kites!

Flying Kites

Over 5,000 kites were displayed at the Carnegie Science Center as a tribute to the regions abused children this April as part of Kites for Kids, an event presented by KidsVoice. As a show of support, the community was asked to bring a kite in with them that weekend to be displayed along with the kites of abused children that were already on display at the Science Center.

Kites for Kids took place the weekend of April 26 & 27 at the Carnegie Science Center. The event featured live entertainment, kite flying and educational programs centered around the science of flight.

In addition to booths presented by KidsVoice, Carnegie Science Center and Fly Pittsburgh Kite Club, other exhibitors included:

  • Comcast
  • Every Child, Inc.
  • Highmark
  • Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Organization
  • Pittsburgh International Children's Theater
  • UPMC Health Plan

KrunkA KidsVoice stage featured entertainment by local young performers. Some of the talent included:

  • Hip Hop performance by The Krunk Movement
  • Dancing by Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen Elena LaQuatra
  • Original song by Anita Levels
  • Twirler Jessica Megliss

Kites for Kids is an opportunity for KidsVoice to communicate a message of hope and advocacy and familiarize people with our role in protecting our most precious resource, our children. The kites symbolize hope, a happy childhood, and a chance to soar, which unfortunately many local children do not experience. We hope that thousands of people will join us and help send the message to our clients that the community supports and believes in them.

Shelly & Dan Onorato are honorary chairpersons of Kites for Kids.
